Reliving My Childhood

Canonsburg, PA

“During my holiday visit home, I decided to soak in the nostalgia I’ve always been too afraid to face. Thankfully it was full of laughter and warm memories.”

“It’s interesting how the details are so much more vivid when you’re older. When you’re young, it’s as if the world is a bit more blurry… Everything is constantly in motion and there is no stopping. When you finally pause and look, you can remember everything as if it were back then…”

“This is probably the most peaceful and memorable visit home. I made the mistake of waiting over a year before visiting and that made it even more special for me. Visiting home helps to bring everything full circle for me; mentally. I’m so used to running around and not stopping for anything day by day in Nashville. Being home gives me the space to breathe, that I so desperately need from time to time. The speed limit is lower, the drivers have good sense, everything is close by, the crime rate is next to nothing, and it’s peacefully quiet. I’ve been through some very challenging if not traumatic things growing up, but I truly loved my childhood. I love the sports and activities I participated in, the teachers I had, and the many friendships I made and still have. I wouldn’t change anything; I wouldn’t change anything I’ve had to endure or witness. I’ve grown into such an outrageously intelligent and eloquent woman so far, and I wouldn’t be any of those things if I did not have the same upbringing. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve made odd decisions, and I’ve also made enemies… I’m a student always so I’m able to so see the mistake and learn how to change my mindset/approach moving forward. That’s one thing I really love about myself… I’m very self aware.

“I know I definitely won’t be waiting a year to visit home again; that was a huge mistake. I normally visit every few months or at least once or twice a year. Life has been busy and I love having my mom visit me here in Nashville, but it’s also important for me to set aside the time needed to visit home for a decent amount of time as well. I’m thankful to be surrounded by love and I’m thankful for the life that I have.”
